3 Stars - This little classic was a fun, easy thriller to read. The whole story is told from the perspective Richard Hannay who finds himself on a mad dash for his life. And dare say, he kind of likes it. The stakes are high at nearly every moment. And it was clear to see why so many play and film adaptations followed. There's also several fun references to other literary classics and true appreciation for mystery and adventure writing woven cleverly into the story and dialouge. The influence on later works by mystery and spy authors of the next generation can be spotted too. Hannay's exploits, both real and imagined by himself as alibis, are supposedly partially based on the author's real life ones. And it's obvious he's having a good time regaling us. An underrated classic literature gem.
