3 Stars - This thriller has a little of everything and despite being now forty years old, hardly feels dated. The Butcher's Boy himself is a nameless main character, and at times that was a bit confusing. The narrator did an excellent job, but sometimes an audiobook really needs names to be used more. I particularly enjoyed Elizabeth's scenes, seeing her go from mundane office worker to field agent was entertaining and her personality relatable. Sort of the opposite of her quirky, violent, but highly experienced counterpart. The plot was definitely spread a bit thin, but Perry's way with characters and even a touch of humor makes the suspension of disbelief worthwhile. Some readers may not approve of the far reaching plot devices, mob melodrama, or awkward racy scenes. But this was a very intriguing, fast moving, start to the short series.
