3.5 Stars - A WWII era tale of three women's very different lives, all struggling to balance family and their own aspirations. Book lovers will adore the way Juliet, Sophie, and Katie appreciate books. And Ryan does a great job of name dropping classic novels and showing how books and libraries can really bring people together. It was a tad slow paced. The three different perspectives both helped and hindered this I think. Juliet's story was the most central as the librarian herself. She's trying to make a lot of hard decisions and stand up for herself and others. Sophie's struggles as a Jew separated from her family and helpless at times were heart wrenching. But Katie's was possibly the most dramatic, trying to keep secrets from her family and dealing with the disappearance of the man she loves. A great read for general and historical fiction fans. I truly felt transported to the past.
