3 Stars- As excited as I was for this, I admittedly lost interest when I felt like I wasn't getting the plot I expected so much. This, to me, appeared to be an action thriller. A former operator of vague background goes to find his missing wife who may have her own secrets. Instead of an hands on action movie style story though, this was like a domestic thriller in disguise. I know that's the genre that's very in right now for all mysteries, but they're just not my cup of tea. Our hero was cool enough and so was his wife. I was even rooting for the villain's teen daughter and the cop trailing behind everyone at certain points. But the part that ruined this for me, as with many of these books, the husband and wife could've saved themselves so much heartbreak, confusion, and struggle by being honest with each other. Which of course they admit and is the basis for many a novel. But this was a little too long and drawn out for me to care much for it. There's plenty of twists and turns and I've always liked Freeman's clear and concise style of mystery writing. Just expect more Gillian Flynn than Vince Flynn here.
