3 Stars - Atkins delves into the domestic thriller scene with this story of a disappeared husband in the mid-South. As always, he nails the settings, the atmosphere, pop culture references, and some twists and turns. The biggest problem was the one I have with most of this sub genre: difficulty finding sympathy for the characters. Addison came off kinda naive and spoiled, though she did have a lot of grit as the story went forward. The PI was the most likable. The plot was a bit wild even for something that was pretty Southern gothic and even though I liked the big surprise, I still felt like I needed more to root for. There's also some very sad family/parent-child storylines here that tugged at my heart strings. Overall, worth a read, especially if you do enjoy mysteries featuring lying spouses, family secrets, and a touch of the absurd.
