3 Stars - A twisty and chilling tale sure to please domestic thriller fans. The tension starts on the first page with a couple driving through a snowstorm, and it was easy to fly through the pages. McFadden's writing style is simplistic and dialouge-filled, which likely has added to her popularity. But at times some of the repetition got on my nerves. Tricia and Ethan slightly break the norm of these thrillers by being newlyweds. And we hear only from the POV of Tricia and the disappeared psychologist and accomplished author Adrienne in flashbacks. So, you're at the mercy of their thoughts and feelings. But an interesting addition was the transcripts of Adrienne's tapes that added a little something different to the story. It reminded me a lot of The Sixth Sense. This a good read for mystery lovers who want to keep guessing. And it's great for spooky season readers who want something like horror but without the gore.
